This iconic battle won a place in Australian history as the first success of a fledgling navy at a time of great peril in the Pacific and Indian oceans. The short, sharp and deadly battle ensured the young navy’s name resounded around the world.

Mike Carlton will address the strategic situation in 1914 and the operational background to Australia’s role in her near region, describing the Sydney/Emden action and putting it in its proper historic and operational context.
