The Anglo-Boer War: Australian Mounted Operations 1901-1902
The conventional war in South Africa ended in 1900 with the capture of Pretoria on 7 June and the operations in the Brandwater Basin on 30 July. From then on the war became a guerilla war in which Lord Kitchener deployed mounted columns to harass and capture Boer fighters.
Colonel Deasey will examine several mounted operations during this second phase of the War, in particular one of the most successful columns, that commanded by Colonel Ingouville Williams, which included units of NSW Mounted Rifles and NSW Imperial Bushmen, the NSW Field Ambulance and elements of “A” Battery RAA.
