We have all heard of the legendary power of the English Longbow and how, in the opinion of some historians, it dominated the battlefields of Medieval Europe. Why then did the English army and others move rapidly from this awesome weapon to gunpowder weapons (with their obvious deficiencies) in the 16th Century? What motivated this major innovation across the battlefields of Western Europe? The answers are not always what we may expect. Come and be entertained by this analysis which is based on some of the more recent scientific studies of the weapons of the period, such as the Graz Armoury Tests.
