The Military History Society of New South Wales Incorporated presents
The Canberra, an aircraft of classical beauty, was the first jet engine bomber to come into use with the RAAF, replacing the piston engine Lincoln in 1951. The aircraft of No. 2 Squadron became the first Australian jet bombers to be used in combat operations in Malaya. They went on to take part in the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia and finally, the War in South Vietnam.
Mr. Twyford will describe the basic details of the aircraft and its characteristics. He will describe his experience as one of the first two pilots to be sent direct from pilot training to train on the Canberra and will go on to describe its initial use in the training of aircrews for operations and the use of the Canberra in the Malayan Emergence and the Indonesian “Confrontation”.
