The Military History Society of New South Wales Incorporated presents
The story of Gallipoli, where in August 1915 the Allied Forces made a last valiant effort against the Ottoman Army, is one of infamous might-have-beens. If only the allies had held out a little longer, pushed a little harder, had better luck – Gallipoli might have been a decisive victory that knocked the Ottoman Empire out of the War.
Dr Crawley will examine the Gallipoli Campaign at the operational level of war explaining how in
1915, the Allies were still trying to adapt to a new form of warfare where static defence replaced manoeuver and offensive action doctrine. He will scrutinise all aspects of the offensive: planning, mobility, command, fire support, army/navy cooperation and logistics, to show how it failed.
