Assassination in Sarajevo: an overture to The First World War.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the thrones of Austria- Hungary, and his wife the Duchess of Hohenberg on Sunday, 28 June 1914, set off a chain of events that led to the First World War. Accounts of the assassination vary considerably and although Bosnian Serb extremists were rightly accused of this act of terrorism, theories of other conspiracies to murder have often clouded the issue.

Brigadier Carey will examine and assess the evidence and competing points of view in order to bring a clearer light onto this crucial episode in world history.
