The Military History Society of New South Wales Incorporated presents
Ms Lauren Hewitt
on “The Lost Diggers”.
This Lecture by Ms Lauren Hewitt (Curator of Photographs at the Australian War Memorial) will be based on a collection of 800 photographic plates found in the attic of a farmhouse in Vignacourt, France. This remarkable collection of images recording the lives of diggers stationed in Vignacourt during World War I was acquired by Mr Kerry Stokes and generously donated to the Australian War Memorial.
Lauren Hewitt has a background in photography having completed her Bachelor of Arts (Photomedia with Honours) at the ANU in 2003. Hewitt has always worked in collecting institutions, starting her career at the National Library of Australia where she was privileged to work with photographic collections as well-known as Frank Hurley and Wolfgang Sievers; the National Museum of Australia; and at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). In 2010 she joined the Memorial curatorial staff and was assistant curator on the Remember me: the lost diggers of Vignacourt exhibition.
