The Military History Society of New South Wales Incorporated presents
This lecture reviews the historic and decisive ‘Battle of Khalkhin Gol’, which resulted in the 1939 defeat of the Japanese Sixth Army on the border of Mongolia and Manchukuo. Many historians believe that Japanese strategy to target the Southern countries (including Darwin bombing) arose from its defeat at the Khalkhin Gol by the joint army of the Soviet Union and Mongolia.
His Excellency Mr. Bold has been the Ambassador of Mongolia to Australia
since June 2012. He was the Director of the General Intelligence Agency of Mongolia and the Ambassador of Mongolia to the United States. Ambassador Bold previously served as an executive secretary of the National Security Council of Mongolia. He also worked at the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia as well as at the Embassy of Mongolia to Japan. Ambassador Bold attended the Military Institute in Ulaanbaatar, the Military Diplomatic School in Moscow and the Naval Postgraduate School in the United States.
