Great Mates: Douglas Marks and Harry Murray

DouglasMarks_HarryMurray

Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Marks DSO, MC (Left) and Lieutenant Colonel Harry Murray VC, CMG, DSO and Bar, DCM (Right) were two of Anzac’s greatest sons. Marks became a battalion commander at the age of just 22. Murray remains still, the most decorated serviceman in Australia’s history.

Will Davies will examine the great friendship that developed between these two notable heroes of the AIF; how they met initially at Gallipoli and when Murray transferred to Marks’ battalion, they became close friends, having the highest respect for each other and surviving the worst battles on the Western Front. Marks died in tragic circumstances in 1920 and Murray later named his son Douglas in honour of his great mate.
